WebNowse BETA Help

Registry

Internet Explorer opens files whose Windows Explorer 'Confirm open after download' shell attribute is not set, directly with third-party applications, without raising any notifications. This behavior is not the default, but it is, in general, dangerous for the files that is has been enabled.

The 'Always ask ...' should be checked for WebNowse to work safely!

To use WebNowse you have to set the 'Confirm open after download' for the files it has been disabled. For example, in Windows XP, the 'Confirm open after download' can be explicitly uncheck in Windows Explorer in [Tools / Folder Options] menu, using the [File Types] tab.

You can check confirm download option back manually for the files that you have removed it!

Finding all such files and checking this attribute manually can be tedious. The [Registry] tab in the WebNowse settings dialog can find and fix all these files. Such information is saved in Windows Registry, for example:

Same result can be achieved by editing Windows Registry directly.

Use the [Registry] tab in the WebNowse to find the registry entries for such files and then select them and use the [Fix selected] button to fix them. The fix only unsets the OpenIsSafe bit of the EditFlags value, leaving the other bits to their original values.

After you do this, WebNowse can handled properly the Internet Explorer file downloads, without needing any user interaction. This action cannot be undone.
